Professor Christopher Gan is a distinguished academic at Lincoln University's Faculty of Agribusiness and Commerce, where he serves as Professor in the Department of Financial and Business Systems. He also holds multiple adjunct and visiting professorships across Asia, including at Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University (China), Airlangga University (Indonesia), and University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam). His international collaborations span numerous countries in Asia and beyond.

Professor Gan is internationally recognized for his quantitative research in banking, microfinance, stock markets, and Asian financial economics. His work focuses on expanding knowledge and developing practical recommendations for government agencies and businesses, with particular emphasis on Asian financial markets, China's banking system, and rural credit in Asia. He actively collaborates with academics globally and mentors the next generation of scholars through extensive postgraduate supervision.
His recent publications demonstrate a strong trend toward climate finance, sustainable investments, and the economic impacts of global disruptions like the COVID-19 pandemic and geopolitical conflicts. His research spans traditional financial topics while increasingly incorporating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors, with growing focus on emerging markets in Asia and Africa.

He serves as Chief Editor of the Review of Applied Economics and on numerous editorial boards, while also reviewing for major funding bodies like the Health Research Council of New Zealand.
Through the Lincoln University-Yunus Social Business Center and the Lincoln University Center for International Development (LUCID), Professor Gan leads initiatives focused on social business and international development, particularly in Asian contexts. His work bridges academic research with practical applications for poverty reduction and sustainable economic development.
