Luiz Fernando Distadio is a Lecturer in the Department of Accounting, Finance and Economics at Griffith University's Business School on the Gold Coast Campus. He is also a member of the Griffith Asia Institute and serves as a Research Seminar Convenor for the Accounting Discipline. His academic career spans across multiple countries and institutions, reflecting his international expertise in accounting and finance.
Dr. Distadio completed his PhD in Accounting at University of Technology Sydney in 2020. Prior to his doctoral studies, he earned a Master's in International Accounting & Finance from Birmingham University's Business School (UK) in 2011. His undergraduate education includes a bilingual degree in Accounting & Finance from both FEA-USP (Brazil) and HEC Montreal (Canada).
Dr. Distadio's primary research interests focus on sustainability accounting and sustainable finance, energy finance and commodity markets, and financial crime. His work specifically examines green bonds, external verification reports, and the role of assurance in sustainable finance. He also investigates financial markets in the energy sector, particularly farmout agreements in the oil and gas industry, and the adoption of international financial reporting standards in emerging economies. His research has been published in high-quality journals including The International Journal of Accounting (ABS 3), The Energy Journal (ABS 3), Journal of Commodity Markets (ABS 3), and Finance Research Letters (ABS 2).
His publications demonstrate a clear trajectory toward sustainable finance and energy markets, with recent work focusing on green bonds and verification mechanisms to prevent greenwashing. Earlier research centered on energy finance, particularly farmout arrangements in the oil and gas industry, showing his evolving expertise from traditional energy finance to sustainable finance applications.

Dr. Distadio has been actively involved in multiple funded research projects, including grants from the Accounting & Finance Association of Australia & New Zealand, CPA Australia, Asian Development Bank, and United Nations Economic and Social Commission. He serves as an Associate Supervisor for doctoral candidates working on topics related to environmental financial crime and project finance debt mandates. His professional activities include peer reviewing for prestigious journals and conferences, as well as membership in the AFAANZ ESG Special Group.
As a member of the Griffith Asia Institute and active participant in sustainable development initiatives aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), Dr. Distadio contributes to interdisciplinary research teams focused on sustainable finance and accounting practices in the Asia-Pacific region.
