Christopher Fullerton is a Professor in the Department of Geography and Tourism Studies at Brock University, within the Faculty of Social Sciences. He holds the 2019 Chancellor’s Chair for Teaching Excellence and the 2019 Faculty of Social Sciences Award for Excellence in Teaching. His academic journey includes a PhD in Geography from the University of Saskatchewan (2004), an MURP from Queen’s University (1997), and a B.A. in Honours Geography from Nipissing University (1993).
His research focuses on rural planning, transportation policy, and tourism development. Key interests include rural tourism resilience, Niagara’s planning history, public transit innovation, and university-community partnerships. He has published extensively on topics such as rural economic development, U-Pass programs, and the cultural dimensions of rural revitalization.
Fullerton is committed to experiential learning, coordinating field courses and internships. His current Chancellor’s Chair project explores the impacts of experiential education in geography and tourism studies through stakeholder surveys and interviews. He has collaborated with communities like the Township of Algonquin, Niagara Region Public Health, and the St. Catharines Transit Commission.
He teaches courses such as GEOG 1F90 (Introduction to Human Geography) and GEOG 3P57 (Human Geography and Tourism Studies Field Course). His work bridges academic research with community engagement, emphasizing policy relevance and practical outcomes.
