معرفی
Dr. Christopher Chen is the William Fairfield Warren Distinguished Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Boston University and Director of the Biological Design Center. He holds dual appointments at the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University. His research focuses on mechanobiology, tissue engineering, and regenerative medicine, with emphasis on vascularization, stem cells, and cancer. He co-leads the 3D Organ Engineering Initiative at Wyss and directs the Tissue Microfabrication Lab.
- Education: A.B. in Biochemistry (Harvard), M.S. in Mechanical Engineering (MIT), Ph.D. in Medical Engineering (Harvard-MIT), M.D. (Harvard Medical School)
- Past roles: Assistant Professor at Johns Hopkins, Skirkanich Professor of Innovation at University of Pennsylvania
Research interests include understanding how cells interact with materials and each other to build tissues. Key areas are biomimetic tissue models, vascular remodeling, and cell-matrix mechanics. His lab develops tools like 3D organ-on-a-chip platforms and ESCAPE microfabrication techniques.
Major awards include the Presidential Early Career Award, National Academy of Inventors Fellowship, and Robert A. Pritzker Award. He co-authored over 230 publications, focusing on vascular biology, cardiac mechanics, and engineering therapeutic tissues.
- Grants: Active funding from NIH, DoD, and private foundations
- Labs/Teams: Chen Tissue Microfabrication Lab, Biological Design Center
