Christopher Bolton is a Senior Lecturer in Drama Education at Birmingham City University (BCU), serving as Course Leader for the PGCEi program. Previously, he worked as a Drama Advanced Skills Teacher in secondary schools, bringing practical classroom experience to his academic role.
His research investigates how drama pedagogy creates dialogic learning spaces within Initial Teacher Education, with specific focus on autoethnography as a tool for professional identity exploration. He further examines collaborative Theatre in Education approaches—particularly through partnerships with organizations like Big Brum—to understand their impact on educator identity formation and classroom practice.
Bolton provides postgraduate supervision in drama and teacher education domains, leveraging his secondary school background and research expertise. His work actively bridges academic theory with practical theatre-based educational methodologies through ongoing industry collaborations.
