David Bolton is an Associate Professor and Program Director for Undergraduate Business Management in the School of Management at Swansea University. He lectures in Entrepreneurship and Project Management, bringing 20 years of industry experience in Sales, Marketing, Business Development, and economic support for the Welsh Government before returning to academia in 2013.
Dr. Bolton specializes in business management, entrepreneurship education, and project management. His expertise spans business start-up and development, sales and marketing strategies, and fostering entrepreneurial mindsets. He has developed cross-campus modules focusing on entrepreneurial thinking and leadership, with particular emphasis on professional skills development for both undergraduate and postgraduate programs in the UK and internationally, especially in the Chinese education sector.
His research publications demonstrate a strong focus on university-industry collaboration, knowledge transfer, and the role of higher education institutions in regional economic development. His work examines how universities can maintain relevance through participation in knowledge economies, particularly in peripheral regions and in the post-COVID environment. His research bridges theoretical frameworks with practical applications in entrepreneurship education and innovation management.

Dr. Bolton serves as the Wales Regional Vice Chair of the Chartered Management Institute (2018-2024) and is President of Enterprise Educators UK for 2024-2025. He acts as an external examiner for Keele, Glyndŵr, Gloucestershire Universities, and the University of the West of Scotland. His international engagement includes keynotes at conferences such as the International Enterprise Educators Conference in China (2019).
Within the School of Management, Dr. Bolton has contributed significantly to the strategic direction of innovation and enterprise modules, developing professional skills curricula that prepare students for real-world business challenges through practical project work that impacts local communities.
