Nicole Dingwall is a Departmental Lecturer in English Education and Ordinary Fellow at the University of Oxford's Department of Education, affiliated with Wolfson College. She leads the PGCE English program and supervises MSc and DPhil students in Learning and Teaching, Medical Education, and doctoral research. With over 20 years' experience in secondary education spanning Australia and the UK, her expertise includes teacher identity development, English curriculum design, and education for vulnerable students such as children in care. Currently leading a Norwegian Research Council-funded comparative study on language learning in secondary schools across England, Norway, and France.
Her academic journey includes a DPhil from Oxford University and prior teaching roles in secondary comprehensive schools. Research focuses on English department cultures, pedagogical innovations, and the intersection of drama with at-risk student engagement. She has authored peer-reviewed articles on classroom reconfiguration, multicultural curriculum debates, and drama-based interventions, alongside evaluation reports for attachment-aware school programs.
Nicole's advisory work spans multiple postgraduate programs. Her research interests emphasize curriculum reform, teacher professional identity, and applying arts-based methodologies to improve educational outcomes for marginalized youth. Ongoing projects explore cross-national educational practices and the role of theory-driven reflection in teacher practice.
