Christoph Lindner serves as President and Vice-Chancellor of the Royal College of Art (RCA), the world's leading postgraduate art and design institution, while also holding the title of Professor of Visual Culture. Previously, he was Dean of the Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment at University College London, Dean of the College of Design at the University of Oregon, and Professor of Media and Culture at the University of Amsterdam. His leadership extends to serving as trustee of the Victoria and Albert Museum, general editor of the Cities and Cultures book series, editorial board member of Places Journal, and co-director of the Helix Centre for Design and Health at Imperial College London.
Lindner completed his PhD at the University of Edinburgh after growing up in France and Switzerland. His educational background informs his interdisciplinary approach to academic leadership and scholarship.
As an interdisciplinary scholar of cities and visual culture with over 20 years of experience across US, European, and UK institutions, Lindner's research interests span urban geography, media studies, cultural analysis, and sustainability in the built environment. His leadership has focused on advancing educational access and equity, intercultural understanding, and environmental sustainability through innovative academic programming. At UCL's Bartlett Faculty, he led the institution to achieve the number 1 global ranking in Architecture & Built Environment while developing new research and degree programs focused on sustainability.

Lindner has established significant research infrastructure throughout his career, having created and led the Netherlands Institute for Cultural Analysis, co-founded the Amsterdam Centre for Globalization Studies, and directed the Amsterdam School for Cultural Analysis. His current leadership at RCA positions him at the forefront of global art and design education, with particular emphasis on how creative disciplines can address climate change and social equity challenges. He maintains active scholarly connections through visiting professorships at institutions including New York University, The New School, University of California-Berkeley, University of Edinburgh, University of Freiburg, Queen Mary University of London, Ca' Foscari University of Venice, and the University of London Institute in Paris.
