معرفی
Prof. Christoph Berner is Professor for Old Testament Studies/Hebrew Bible at the University of Kiel. He holds a Th.D. in Jewish Studies/New Testament and a Priv-Doz in Old Testament Studies/Hebrew Bible, both from the University of Göttingen.
His research focuses on:
- Old Testament Studies
- Hebrew Bible textual development
- Ancient Jewish chronological systems
- Biblical narrative composition
- Literary analysis of Pentateuch/Hexateuch
Professor Berner's scholarly work examines how biblical texts evolved through historical and theological contexts. His research demonstrates particular expertise in heptadic (seven-based) chronological structures in ancient Judaism, the literary development of foundational narratives like Exodus, and the interplay between legal and narrative elements in biblical texts. He investigates how editorial layers shaped final biblical forms, with special attention to post-exilic developments.
His publications reveal consistent interest in textual seams and transitions within the biblical corpus, exploring how different sections connect and influence each other. Professor Berner's work bridges historical-critical methods with literary analysis to provide nuanced understanding of biblical composition processes.
Professor Berner has authored significant monographs including Jahre, Jahrwochen und Jubiläen (2006) on heptadic time structures, Die Exoduserzählung (2010) on the Exodus narrative's development, and has edited important collaborative works such as The Reception of Biblical War Legislation (2015), Book-Seams in the Hexateuch I (2018), and Clothing and Nudity in the Hebrew Bible (2019).
His recent articles explore the development of the seven-day creation framework and its connection to Shabbat observance, as well as purity concerns embedded in the Exodus plague narratives, reflecting his ongoing investigation of how theological concerns shaped biblical textual development.
