Dr. Bernius specializes in the historical and geographical context of the Bible, integrating archaeological evidence with textual analysis. His research emphasizes how ancient Near Eastern environments shaped biblical narratives, particularly in Old Testament studies. This focus manifests through contributions to major reference works like the Archaeological Study Bible and Museum of the Bible curriculum, where he bridges academic scholarship with practical theological education.
He directs Indiana Wesleyan's Summer in the Holy Land program, providing immersive experiential learning in Israel and Jordan that connects students directly with biblical geography and archaeology.
