Prof. Hava Shalom-Guy serves as academic vice-president at the David Yellin Academic College of Education in Jerusalem, where she also teaches in the Department of Bible. She holds a Ph.D. in Bible from the Hebrew University and has established herself as a significant voice in contemporary biblical scholarship.
Her research focuses on literary analysis of biblical texts, particularly examining intertextuality and historical contexts of biblical narratives. Prof. Shalom-Guy's work often explores how biblical stories interact with each other and with historical contexts, especially during the Persian period. Her scholarship bridges traditional religious understanding with modern academic approaches to biblical texts.
Prof. Shalom-Guy has made notable contributions to the understanding of biblical narratives through her publications. Her recent work examines themes such as the portrayal of wealth acquisition in biblical exodus narratives and the historical development of Sinai revelation concepts in biblical literature. Her scholarship demonstrates careful attention to literary structures while engaging with historical-critical questions.
Among her notable publications is her book The Gideon Cycle through the Mirror of Its Literary Parallels [Hebrew] and the article "Three-Way Intertextuality: Some Reflections of Abimelech's Death at Thebez in Biblical Narrative" published in the Journal for the Study of the Old Testament.
Prof. Shalom-Guy has expressed that "current biblical scholarship which undermines the traditional belief in the textual integrity of the Torah and its accurate historicity provides a precious opportunity to engender a spiritual revitalization of traditional Judaism." This perspective informs her approach to bridging academic biblical studies with religious tradition.
