Christoph Bareither is a Professor of Historical and Cultural Anthropology and Director of the Ludwig Uhland Institute for Empirical Cultural Studies at the University of Tübingen. His research focuses on digital anthropology, artificial intelligence, and their societal impacts. He leads projects on AI's role in academia, digital curation in museums, and Holocaust remembrance through digital media. He co-directs the Tübingen Center for Digital Education and is a Principal Investigator in the Cluster of Excellence 'Machine Learning for Science.'

Research Interests: Digital ethnography, AI ethics, social media cultures, museum anthropology, political truth-making, and emotional practices. Current projects explore AI's transformation of academic practices, digital heritage curation, and populist discourse in museums.
Recent Work: His 2025 book KI:Kultur examines AI's integration into everyday life. He co-edited the 2023 Special Issue on Digital Truth-Making, analyzing right-wing politics and social media. Recent articles address generative AI in academia and ethnographic eye-tracking methods.
Awards: 2016 German Research Prize for his dissertation on video game violence.
Teaching & Leadership: Heads the Digital Anthropology Lab, teaches courses on cultural theory and digital methods. Serves on editorial boards for journals like Zeitschrift für Empirische Kulturwissenschaft and advises international projects.
