Professor Christine Harrison is a leading academic in Science Education at King's College London's School of Education, Communication & Society, affiliated with the CRESTEM Centre. She holds the title of Professor of Science Education, specializing in formative assessment, teacher education, and inquiry-based learning. Her career began with 13 years of secondary school teaching before transitioning to academia in 1993 to lead science teacher training programs. She pioneered the KMOFAP project to integrate formative assessment practices in classrooms and led pan-European initiatives like SAILS and ASSIST-ME to advance inquiry-based STEM education.
Her research bridges theory and practice, emphasizing how teachers conceptualize and implement assessment strategies. Notable contributions include the 1998 collaboration with Paul Black on formative assessment, influencing global educational practices. She has secured grants from the ESRC, Wellcome Trust, and EU FP7 programs, and her work addresses assessment challenges in changing educational landscapes, such as GCSE practical assessments moving to paper-based formats.
Prof. Harrison supervises PhDs focusing on classroom assessment, teacher pedagogy, and practical science education. She actively engages in international conferences and publishes widely in journals like International Journal of Science Education and Teaching and Teacher Education. Her 2018 Founding Fellowship from the Chartered College of Teaching underscores her impact in educational research and practice.
