Dr. Natasha Serret is an Associate Professor of Science Education (Teaching and Scholarship) at the School of Social Sciences, Nottingham Trent University. With over 25 years of experience, she specializes in science education research focusing on transformative professional learning, classroom dialogue, and student outcomes. She leads primary science across all Initial Teacher Education (ITE) routes and supervises doctoral candidates. Previously, she served as course leader for BA Primary Education (2018-2024) and worked as a post-doctoral researcher at King's College London on major EU projects.
Her research integrates classroom dialogue, assessment practices, and cognitive development to create meaningful professional development frameworks. She employs qualitative methodologies including action research and multi-step coding of classroom interactions to identify conditions that enhance science learning.
Publications demonstrate strong focus on science education reform, particularly formative assessment techniques and inquiry-based learning in primary settings. Recent works explore teacher-researcher collaborations, sustainable education during crises, and emancipatory professional development models.
