Christine Dunger

Christine Dunger is an Assistant Professor and Research Associate at the University of Witten/Herdecke, affiliated with the Faculty of Health and the Chair of Social Philosophy and Ethics in Health Care. Her research focuses on qualitative health services research and ethics, emphasizing person-centered care and empirical ethics in healthcare. She has held her position since 2019 and has authored over 47 publications, with a strong emphasis on palliative care, nursing ethics, and interdisciplinary methodologies.

Key research interests include the study of empirical ethics in healthcare, evaluation of qualitative research methods for assessing ethical attitudes, and health services research. She co-leads the PICo project on nurses' professional identity during the pandemic (2023–2025). Awards include the Elisabeth-Tengelmann-Preis and Förderpreis from the German Society for Palliative Medicine (2014).

Dr. Dunger serves as Editor-in-Chief of Pflege: Palliativ and actively participates in editorial and review activities for journals like Interdisciplinary Health Services Research. She has presented at conferences, including a keynote on the DGP Ethics Committee’s work (March 2024).
