Christine Berberich is Reader in Literature and Associate Head of School for Global Engagement at the University of Portsmouth's School of Area Studies, Sociology, History, Politics and Literature. She leads the Centre for Studies in Literature and co-directs the Centre of Excellence for Heritage Innovation. Previously serving as Global Engagement Lead (2018-2021) and Senior Lecturer in English Literature, she has been at Portsmouth since 2009 after a seven-year lectureship at the University of Derby.
Her research spans two primary domains: literary representations of English national identity (including Brexit literature and landscape studies) and Holocaust representations in contemporary literature. Major projects include the Faculty Strategic Research Project 'PG Wodehouse and the Men of Tost' (2019-2021) and 'Britain in Europe / Europe in Britain' (2016-2019), which featured international conferences and public engagement through the Being Human Festival.
