Jared McBride

Jared McBride is Assistant Professor of History at UCLA specializing in 20th century Russia, Ukraine, and Eastern Europe. His research examines nationalist movements, mass violence, interethnic conflict, and war crimes prosecution related to the Second World War and Cold War periods.

His scholarship focuses on:

• Local perpetrators and interethnic violence during Nazi occupation
• Holocaust participation in Ukrainian contexts
• Ethnic cleansing campaigns in Volhynia
• Post-Soviet memory politics
• Access to archival sources and freedom of information

Dr. McBride directs UCLA's 'Political Violence in the Modern World' course and has published extensively on wartime violence, nationalism, and historical memory. His research employs microhistorical approaches to identify perpetrators and reconstruct local dynamics of violence in occupied territories.

His work has been supported by fellowships from the Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation, Fulbright-Hays, and the US Holocaust Memorial Museum. He is available for media commentary on Ukraine and Russia.
