Christine Abbt is a Full Professor of Philosophy at the University of St. Gallen (HSG), affiliated with the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Department of Philosophy. Previously, she held Full Professorships at the University of Graz (2020–2023) and a Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) Professorship at the University of Lucerne (2015–2019). Her research focuses on Political Philosophy, Radical Democracy, Deconstruction, and Critical Theory, with notable projects such as Political Orders of Indeterminacy and Democratic Curiosity.
Education: Habilitation in Philosophy (University of Zurich), Doctorate in Philosophy (University of Zurich), Diploma in Higher Teaching Qualification (German and Philosophy), and extensive research stays at institutions like the University of Chicago and ETH Zurich.
Research Interests: Her work explores democratic theory, ethical dimensions of migration policy, and the intersection of aesthetics and politics. Recent talks include discussions on Democratic Freedom and Transformation and Human Rights and Democracy.
Awards and Memberships: Awards include Research Fellowships at the Cluster of Excellence Normative Orders and IFK Vienna. She is a member of the German Society for Philosophy, the Austrian Society for Women in Philosophy, and serves on the board of the Nietzsche House Foundation.
Teaching and Leadership: She has taught extensively at universities in Lucerne, Graz, and Zurich, including interdisciplinary programs like Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE). She co-developed the Philosophy Didactics program at Lucerne University of Teacher Education and directed the continuing education program Science and Wisdom at the University of Zurich (2005–2015).
