Christina Walter is an Associate Professor in the Department of English at the University of Maryland. Her research focuses on modern and contemporary British and global anglophone literature, with a particular emphasis on intersections between science, technology, gender studies, and critical race theory. She holds a PhD and is affiliated with the College of Arts and Humanities.
Her book Optical Impersonality: Science, Images, and Literary Modernism (2014) redefines modernist aesthetics by examining how scientific theories of vision influenced writers like H.D. and T.S. Eliot. Current projects include Modernism from the Gut, exploring the ontological and scientific discourses of the gut in modernist culture, and a study on photographer Lee Miller’s post-war culinary modernism. She also collaborates with the Phillips Collection on interdisciplinary arts initiatives.
Walter’s research bridges literary studies with visual culture, science, and cultural history. Her work has been published in prestigious journals and institutional partnerships. She contributes to academic leadership through taskforces and exhibitions, fostering dialogue between universities and cultural institutions.
