Craig Woelfel is a Professor and Dean of Academic Life at Flagler College, where he holds a dual role in the Core Department under Academic Affairs. His academic focus spans British and American modernist literature, postcolonial literatures, and interdisciplinary intersections between literature, religion, and intellectual history. He currently serves as Editor of the T. S. Eliot Studies Annual, published by the University of Liverpool Press.
Woelfel earned his PhD in American and British/Anglophone Literatures from the University of Notre Dame (following MAs from Notre Dame and UC San Diego, and a BA from UC San Diego). His research emphasizes the modernist period (early 20th century), secularization studies, and the relationship between literary aesthetics and belief systems.
His publications include Varieties of Aesthetic Experience (2018) and influential articles on T.S. Eliot, postcolonial discourse, and modernist poetics. He teaches a broad range of courses from medieval to contemporary literature, with a particular emphasis on core liberal education curricula like the First Year Seminar.
Woelfel’s work bridges literary analysis with broader cultural contexts, frequently engaging with religion, science, and intellectual history. He has organized special journal issues and contributed to scholarly debates on modernism’s philosophical foundations.
