Christina M. Sheerin

Dr. Christina M. Sheerin is an Assistant Professor at the Virginia Institute for Psychiatric and Behavioral Genetics, Virginia Commonwealth University. Her research focuses on characterizing biologic, genetic, and psychosocial underpinnings of trauma effects, particularly post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), alcohol use disorder (AUD), and fear conditioning processes. Her work aims to translate findings into clinically meaningful applications for comorbid conditions.

Her active projects include research on genetic architecture of PPCS, PTSD, and AUD in military cohorts, and synthesizing genetic/laboratory data for AUD-PTSD comorbidity. Recently completed projects examined deployment experiences and COVID-19 impacts on alcohol use and mental health.
