Christina Herrera

Christina Herrera is a faculty member at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Her research focuses on placental biology in healthy and diseased states, utilizing novel magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and genomic techniques. She collaborates with departments including Radiology, Pathology, Pediatrics, Bioengineering, and the Green Center.

Her work includes developing first-trimester sonographic assessments of the decidua basalis for predicting placenta accreta spectrum disorders. She has authored publications on topics such as placental function, fetal structural anomalies, pulmonary hypertension in pregnancy, and Down syndrome prenatal screening.

Herrera’s publications highlight interdisciplinary research at the intersection of obstetrics, medical imaging, genomics, and neonatal health. Her studies span fetal biometry, neurodevelopmental outcomes in congenital heart disease, and biomarkers for maternal and fetal complications.
