Christiane Hesse is a Research Associate at the University of Leipzig's Faculty of Theology, affiliated with the Institute of Church History and the Chair of Late Middle Ages, Reformation, and Territorial Church History (Prof. Dr. Armin Kohnle) since April 2024. She is currently working on her dissertation project focused on Polykarp Leyser the Elder (1552-1610), a significant figure in Lutheran church history.
Education:
- University of Leipzig (2018-2023): Studied Protestant Theology, earning a First Theological Examination from the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Saxony
- University of Leipzig (2017-2018): Studied Latin Philology, Educational Sciences, and Protestant Religion for Higher Secondary School Teacher Training
Her research expertise spans Church History, Late Medieval and Reformation-era theological developments, and territorial church governance. She has previously served as a Student Assistant/Tutor at multiple theology institutes at Leipzig University, including Religious Education (Prof. Dr. Lütze) and Old Testament Studies (Prof. Dr. Berlejung).
Teaching Activities (Winter Semester 2024/25):
- Proseminar: Church History – covering methodologies, source analysis, and formal requirements for historical work
- Exercise: Book of Concord – examining 16th-century Lutheran confessional texts and associated controversies
