Christiane Arndt is an Associate Professor in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures at Queen's University, affiliated with the Faculty of Arts and Science. She holds a cross-appointment as Assistant Professor in Cultural Studies within the School of Graduate Studies. Her research focuses on German literature and culture, particularly literary Realism, intersections of literature and photography, medicine and literature, and fantastic literature. She has been awarded two research fellowships from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (2013 and 2018).
Dr. Arndt earned a Ph.D. in German Literature from Johns Hopkins University (2006) and a Staatsexamen from Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn (2000). Her recent work explores the interplay between photography and literature in representing diseases around the turn of the 19th century, with publications in Zeitschrift Für Internationale Germanistik, Kleist-Jahrbuch, and Fotogeschichte.
Her research also extends to historical analyses of medical education through family journals and cultural studies of transatlantic narratives. She maintains an active academic profile with a dedicated research homepage and office at Kingston Hall 408.
