Christiana Demetriou is an Assistant Professor specializing in epidemiology and public health, with a focus on chronic disease management, cancer research, and the impact of global pandemics such as COVID-19. She leads major international projects including the C-MOR consortium analyzing pandemic mortality and the STADICAN study examining cancer survival trends in Cyprus. Her work bridges epidemiological analysis with clinical outcomes, emphasizing population health and lifestyle interventions. Key areas include excess mortality patterns during pandemics, Mediterranean diet's role in health, and health disparities in cancer diagnosis and treatment.
Her research topics span Huntington’s disease epigenetics, cancer epidemiology, and the socio-behavioral impacts of lockdowns. She has served as Principal Investigator (PI) on projects like the HEROES initiative exploring breast cancer survivor lifestyles and the C-MOR consortium studying global pandemic mortality. Recent studies highlight her contributions to understanding post-pandemic mortality trends, chrono-nutrition's cognitive effects, and cancer stage-at-diagnosis analyses in Cyprus.
Dr. Demetriou’s work integrates interdisciplinary approaches, collaborating internationally on consensus statements like the Mediterranean Lifestyle guidelines and contributing to global health initiatives. Her publications reflect a strong focus on translating epidemiological findings into actionable public health strategies, addressing both acute health crises and long-term chronic disease challenges.
