Dr. Christian V. Braneon is an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Climate at Columbia University's Columbia Climate School and a civil engineer at the Earth Institute. His research focuses on climate change impacts on urban, agricultural, and natural environments, with an emphasis on urban resilience, water systems, and environmental justice. He co-chairs the New York City Panel on Climate Change (NPCC) and is affiliated with networks like the Environmental Justice and Climate Just Cities Network.
Education:
- PhD, MS, BS (Georgia Tech)
- BS (Morehouse College)
- Intensive Japanese Language Program (Nanzan University)
Research Interests: Dr. Braneon examines how climate change exacerbates inequalities, particularly in vulnerable communities. His work integrates remote sensing and data science to assess urban resilience, water hydrology, and disaster preparedness. He advocates for equitable climate policies and sustainable solutions. Recent studies include coastal wetland dynamics, wildfire recovery, and green infrastructure's role in mitigating urban heat.
Articles Trends: His publications emphasize urban climate adaptation, disaster resilience, and equity-focused climate policy. Recent work highlights climate risk projections, carbon flux analysis, and community-based approaches to environmental justice.
Awards:
- 2021 AXA Award for Climate Science
- 2019 Team Excellence Award (NASA)
- Public Participation Award (White House Climate Action Plan)
Advising & Grants: While no students are listed, his roles in NPCC and NASA-funded projects reflect leadership in collaborative research. He bridges academic and governmental sectors to advance climate action.
Labs/Teams: Part of Columbia's Earth Institute and affiliated with climate justice networks, he collaborates on global policy frameworks and city-level vulnerability assessments.
