Prof. Dr. Christian Schulz is a Professor at the Medical Faculty Mannheim of Heidelberg University. His research focuses on immunopharmacology, specifically investigating the role of myeloid immune cells in health and diseases, including inflammatory conditions, cardiovascular diseases, and aging. His work explores intracellular and extracellular signals driving inflammation, fibrosis, and tissue remodeling, with a goal to develop novel therapeutic strategies.
Research interests include myeloid cell biology, innate immunity, cardiovascular immunity, neuroinflammation, and aging-related immune dysfunction. Key projects include DFG-ANR funded Ageing Immunity and the DFG Research Unit 'Infinite.'
Recent publications highlight breakthroughs in understanding platelet function in aging, cystic fibrosis innate immunity defects, and the link between brain injury and cardiac dysfunction. His work integrates advanced imaging techniques and computational biology to study pathophysiological mechanisms.
He leads a research group in Tridomus B, Room B2.16, and collaborates with international teams on translational immunology projects. His lab's findings have implications for treating chronic inflammatory diseases and improving patient care guidelines for conditions like ME/CFS.
