Dr. Craig Hodges is a Professor in the Department of Genetics and Genome Sciences and the Department of Pediatrics at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He serves as Director of the Cystic Fibrosis Mouse Models Core, which maintains over 50 CF mouse strains distributed globally to researchers. Dr. Hodges received his B.S. in Biology from Berry College (1996) and Ph.D. in Genetics from Case Western Reserve University (2002), with postdoctoral training at University of Georgia.
His research focuses on:
- Cystic fibrosis pathophysiology across multiple organ systems
- Development of conditional CFTR mouse models
- Mechanisms of intestinal dysfunction and growth deficiency in CF
- Modifier genes influencing disease severity
- Gene editing and pharmacological therapeutic strategies
Recent publications (2019-2025) demonstrate strong emphasis on:
- CRISPR-based gene correction approaches
- Novel CF mouse models for therapeutic testing
- Metabolic and immune aspects of CF
- Epigenetic regulation of CF phenotypes
- Innovative drug delivery systems
He directs the internationally recognized Cystic Fibrosis Mouse Models Core that has created 15+ CF mouse models distributed to 209 investigators across 15 countries since 2006, facilitating global CF research collaborations.
