Mitchell Drumm is the Connie and Jim Brown Professor in Cystic Fibrosis Research and holds dual professorships in the Department of Genetics and Genome Sciences and Pediatrics at Case Western Reserve University's School of Medicine. He serves as Director of The Research Institute for Children’s Health, focusing on rare genetic disorders. His roles include Vice Chairman of Clinical and Translational Research and Director of Basic Research for the Willard A. Bernbaum Cystic Fibrosis Research Center.
Education: PhD in Human Genetics (University of Michigan, 1990), BS in Genetics (Ohio State University, 1983). Research interests center on cystic fibrosis (CF), gene editing, and Mendelian disorders. Pioneered CF gene therapy and identified drug-modifiable CFTR channel activity. Holds three patents and authored over 100 manuscripts.
Key achievements include launching The Research Institute for Children’s Health (2015) to apply CF research models to other rare diseases. Current work targets therapies for CF patients unresponsive to CFTR modulators, altered CF metabolism, and gene-editing technologies for CF repair.
