Christian Prener

Christian Prener serves as Assistant Professor of Public International Law at the University of Southern Denmark and holds a Carlsberg Foundation Internationalisation Fellowship at the European University Institute (EUI) within the Global Governance Programme's Global Citizenship research group led by Professor Maarten Vink. His current EUI appointment (2023-2025) focuses on Citizenship, Legal Infrastructures and Global Mobility.

Education:

Prener's research critically examines citizenship law through the lenses of international human rights and global mobility, with particular emphasis on denationalisation practices in counter-terrorism contexts. His work interrogates the tension between state sovereignty and individual rights in citizenship revocation cases, while exploring how legal frameworks perpetuate or challenge historical discrimination in nationality law. This scholarship bridges theoretical analysis with urgent real-world applications in migration governance.

His 2022 publications reveal a cohesive research trajectory analyzing citizenship revocation in Western states, with monograph and article contributions highlighting intersections between counter-terrorism policies, statelessness, and discriminatory legacies in nationality law. These works establish him as a specialist in the legal and moral implications of denationalisation within contemporary human rights discourse.
