Christian Papilloud

Christian Papilloud is Professor of General Sociology with an emphasis on Sociological Theory at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, Faculty of Philosophy I, Institute of Sociology. Since 2012 he holds the chair for General Sociology; from 2008-2012 he held the “Claude Lefort” Chair at the University of Caen Basse-Normandie, France. He serves as Co-Director of the State Research Priority Program GKB and spokesperson of its Graduate School, and is a member of the university Research Commission.

Research Interests:
Professor Papilloud’s work integrates German-French sociological traditions, focusing on theory of the relation, cultural sociology, sociology of knowledge, and innovative quali-quantitative methodologies such as topic models and semantic networks. His projects span digital arts, museum innovation, historical sociology of solidarity, and the societal implications of nanomedicine translation.

Recent Publications Trend:
His latest outputs engage with societal singularization processes, spatial planning indicators, value objectification in economic life, and the rediscovery of Gaston Richard’s solidarity theory, illustrating a blend of theoretical reflection and empirical policy relevance.

He leads or co-leads interdisciplinary initiatives funded by the State of Saxony-Anhalt, DFG and French LabEx ICCA, addressing biodiversity impacts on health & sociability, artistic labour markets, and translation dynamics in nanomedicine.

Lab & International Ties:
Papilloud maintains long-term guest-researcher affiliations with LabEX ICCA, Paris, and has collaborated with CNRS-Pôle Risque, University of Warsaw, Jacobs University/BIGSSS, and Michigan State University, fostering vibrant Franco-German and European research networks.
