معرفی
Professor Christian Jakob is a leading academic in climate science and meteorology at Monash University's School of Earth, Atmosphere and Environment. He holds the position of Professor for Climate Modelling and has been affiliated with Monash since 2007. Previously, he worked at the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (1993–2001) and the Australian Bureau of Meteorology (2002–2007). His research focuses on climate modelling, tropical convection, and energy/water cycle dynamics in global atmospheric models.
Education: PhD in Meteorology from Ludwig Maximilians University, Munich (2001).
Research Interests: Tropical convection mechanisms, weather-climate interactions, and evaluation of climate models. His work contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to climate action and environmental sustainability.
Awards:
- Ascent Award (American Geophysical Union, 2016)
- Fellow of the Australian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society (2017)
- Morton Medal (Australian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society, 2018)
Grants & Projects:
- ARC Centre of Excellence for the Weather of the 21st Century (2024–2031)
- National Environmental Science Program Phase 2 Climate Systems Hub (2020–2026)
- Co-chair of WCRP Digital Earths Lighthouse Activity (current)
Labs/Teams: Leads major international collaborations, including roles in the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) and the Global Energy and Water Cycle Experiment (GEWEX). His work integrates global climate models with observational data to address critical climate science challenges.
