Prof. Christian Hesse is a geodesy expert serving as Lecturer at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HCU) since 2010. He teaches courses in Integrated Navigation, Dynamic Measurement Technology, and Industrial Measurement Technology within the Master's program in Geodesy and Geoinformatics. Previously, he worked as a research assistant at the Leibniz University Hannover (2000–2006) and as a lecturer at Hochschule 21 in Buxtehude. Hesse holds a PhD in Geodesy and is a publicly appointed surveyor, serving as Vice President of the DVW (Society for Geodesy, Geoinformation, and Land Management).
His research focuses on multi-sensor systems, kinematic 3D laser scanning, and underwater measurement technologies. Notable projects include the development of the 3D HydroMapper system for infrastructure inspection and collaboration on EU-funded projects with institutions like TU Munich and the University of the Bundeswehr Munich. He coordinates large-scale research initiatives funded by BMBF, BMWK, and BMDV, emphasizing applied engineering solutions.
Hesse has published extensively on topics like geodetic monitoring of infrastructure, underwater scanning, and sensor integration. His work combines academic rigor with practical applications, addressing challenges in civil engineering, hydrography, and structural safety. Recent projects highlight innovations in digital infrastructure management and machine learning for port infrastructure analysis.
