Christian Ghiglino is a Professor of Economics at the University of Essex, serving as Head of the Department of Economics since 2019 and founding director of the Centre for Social and Economic Network Analysis (SENA). He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Geneva (1993) and a PhD in Particle Physics from CERN (1988). His research focuses on economic theory, networks, and growth, exploring topics like wealth inequality, fiscal policy, and innovation dynamics. He has supervised numerous PhD students and contributes to academic leadership as an Associate Editor of the International Journal of Economic Theory and former Associate Editor of the Journal of Economic Theory.
Key research interests include the role of social networks in shaping economic outcomes, the interplay between inequality and macroeconomic stability, and the evolution of institutional frameworks. His work bridges classical themes (e.g., communication, innovation) with modern network analysis, addressing questions of economic development and policy design.
Notable contributions include studies on knowledge-based structural change, strategic information transmission networks, and the dynamics of social identity.
