Dr. Christian Cargnelli is a film scholar at the University of Vienna's Department of Theatre, Film and Media Studies since 1998, holding a permanent lecturer position since 2018. His research focuses on film history, exile studies, film genres, and the history of science.

His scholarly work examines German-speaking emigres in British cinema (1925-1950) and transnational film culture. Cargnelli's recent publications address precarious academic labor conditions in Austria, while his lectures explore topics from Hollywood's blacklist to film noir aesthetics. He maintains active involvement in film festival programming and oral history projects.
