Dr. Christian Billing is a Reader in Drama and Theatre Practice at the University of Hull's School of the Arts, part of the Faculty of Arts, Cultures and Education. He holds a PhD from the University of Warwick and has a PGCert from Goldsmiths, University of London. His research focuses on Ecological Arts, Early Modern European Theatre, and Shakespearean performance, blending scholarly and practical theatre-making approaches. He has led international projects like the South Holderness Project (2024) and the Lavinia Project (2017), addressing environmental resilience and representations of violence. Billing is a Visiting Professor at New York University's Gallatin School and serves on peer-review panels for UKRI and Canadian funding bodies.

His articles and books, including Czech and Slovak Scenography for Shakespeare (2018), highlight his expertise in theatre design and cross-cultural performance studies.
As a mentor, Billing has supervised over a dozen PhD students, focusing on topics like intercultural theatre, Shakespearean adaptation, and classical drama. His work bridges academic and creative practices, aiming to address societal and environmental challenges through collaborative, interdisciplinary approaches.
