Richard Cheshire is a Senior Lecturer in Acting and Directing at Staffordshire University’s School of Performing Arts. He serves as Course Leader for the MA in Collaborative Theatre Practice and is an Academic Link Tutor for the BA (Hons) in Musical Theatre in partnership with Wilkes Academy. With over six years at Staffordshire University, he previously held leadership roles at Aberystwyth University, including Curriculum Leader for Drama, Performance, and Scenography and Director of Learning and Teaching at the Department of Theatre, Film, and Television.

His research focuses on pantomime, Shakespearean performance, and musical theatre. He collaborates on developing an International Conference on contemporary pantomime manifestations and has expertise in directing classical texts, musical theatre, and community theatre productions. His freelance work includes directing for PHA, Sell A Door Worldwide, and Reveal Theatre Company.
Recent professional engagements include directing Oliver! at Aberystwyth Arts Centre (2019), Aladdin at Broadway Theatre Catford (2018/19), and touring Shakespeare productions as part of the School Shakespeare Project. He has also served as an Adjunct Professor at Wesleyan College, Virginia, and as an External Examiner for multiple UK institutions.
