Christiaan de Koning is a Research Fellow at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, with affiliations to the Oxford Institute for Science, Innovation and Society, and Christ Church College. His research focuses on entrepreneurial venture formation, technology & innovation, institutions, and ecosystems. He holds a DPhil from Saïd Business School, funded by the Saïd Business School-SBS Foundation Scholarship. Prior to his doctorate, he was a Visiting Fellow at InSIS (BioProperty Research Group) and holds an MPhil in Science and Technology Studies (Maastricht University) and an Honours degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences (University College Maastricht).
His expertise includes institutional theory, organisational theory, strategic management, and qualitative research methods. Current research explores the social, organisational, and economic implications of emergent technologies, particularly the commercialisation of biotechnologies like CRISPR. He advises governing bodies (e.g., UK House of Lords, European Commission), media outlets, and life science startups. He founded Founders & Funders, a global platform connecting researchers, entrepreneurs, and investors in science-driven ventures.
Publications include a 2020 doctoral dissertation on CRISPR commercialisation and a 2017 Journal of Responsible Innovation article on genetically modified mosquitoes in Brazil. His work bridges science, entrepreneurship, and institutional frameworks to address innovation challenges.
