Dr. Chris Zou is a Professor in the Department of Natural Resource Ecology & Management at Oklahoma State University, associated with the Division of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources (DASNR). His research focuses on soil-water-vegetation interactions, particularly woody plant encroachment impacts on ecological and hydrological processes in grassland-forest transition zones. He holds a PhD from the University of Canterbury (New Zealand) and completed postdoctoral training at Texas A&M University.
Research interests include ecohydrological modeling, climate change effects, and sustainable land use strategies. He has secured over 26 grants since 2005, including projects on prescribed fire impacts, switchgrass production, and water resource resilience. His work bridges field studies with process-based models, emphasizing practical applications for ecosystem management.
Recent studies investigate wildfire danger under climate change, trace-element dynamics from juniper encroachment, and future species distribution shifts. Collaborations span institutions like the USDA and USGS, addressing regional sustainability challenges in the Southern Great Plains.
