Professor Chris Ward is a faculty member in the Department of Medicine at the Northern Clinical School, University of Sydney's Faculty of Medicine and Health. His research focuses on thrombosis and haemostasis, genetic disorders of blood cells, and clinical outcomes in hematological malignancies. He leads studies on inherited macrothrombocytopenias, immune thrombocytopenia, and novel therapies for multiple myeloma. Key grants include investigations into genetic testing pathways for bleeding disorders and platelet glycoprotein proteolysis mechanisms. His work spans translational research, clinical trials, and survivorship care post-hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.
Research interests include:
- Thrombosis and haemostatic disorders
- Genetic and acquired platelet disorders
- Multiple myeloma treatment efficacy
- Long-term outcomes of stem cell transplantation
- Frailty assessment in oncology patients
Recent publications highlight advancements in belantamab mafodotin therapy, state-of-the-art congress summaries, and patient-reported outcomes in myeloma trials. He collaborates with organizations like Myeloma Australia and the Thrombosis and Haemostasis Society of Australia and New Zealand to develop clinical guidelines for heparin-induced thrombocytopenia and Waldenström macroglobulinaemia.
Grants include a 2018 project on genetic testing for undiagnosed bleeding disorders and a 2017 study on platelet glycoprotein proteolysis mechanisms, both funded by national health bodies. His work integrates clinical care, laboratory research, and patient-centered outcomes to improve diagnostic and therapeutic strategies in hematology.
