Steven E. McKenzie

Steven E. McKenzie is a Professor of Medicine at the Cardeza Foundation for Hematologic Research within Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University. His research focuses on vascular biology and immune-mediated thrombocytopenia, directing two major projects: (1) heparin-induced thrombocytopenia and thrombosis (HITT), including collaborative work with Dr. Michael Reilly that established the first HITT model, and ongoing studies on cholesterol/atherosclerosis effects and microparticle-tissue factor interactions; (2) platelet disorders in pregnancy, investigating aspirin response, platelet-associated microRNAs, and preeclampsia risk markers.

Current work explores novel antithrombotic approaches like phosphatidylserine-blocking nanoparticles that inhibit thrombosis without bleeding risks, and treatments for vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia. He maintains an active research laboratory with translational studies bridging vascular biology and clinical hematology, supported by ongoing projects at the Cardeza Foundation.
