Chris Kalis is an Associate Professor in the School of Cinematic Arts at DePaul University. His expertise spans Computer Graphics, Post Production, and Design, with a focus on Motion Graphics, Film Titles, Sound Design, and Electronic Music Production. He is a co-founder of the award-winning creative studio Plural and the electronic music collective Chandeliers. His work includes narrative animation, sound design, and music that has been featured in international festivals such as the Ann Arbor Film Festival and the Pictoplasma Conference. Current projects include directing a short animated film and serving as assistant producer for the documentary God Said Give 'Em Drum Machines: The Story of Detroit Techno.
Teaching Responsibilities: Chris teaches courses in animation, motion design, and graphic design, including ANI 361 Motion Graphics, POST 348 Title Design, and GD 200 Graphic Design: Form. He has advised students through independent studies and project-based courses like Animation Project Bluelight.
Research & Creative Work: His creative output includes motion design, film titles, and electronic music production. Collaborations have led to screenings at festivals and exhibitions at venues like the Chicago Cultural Center and Hyde Park Art Center. His music has been reviewed positively by outlets like Pitchfork and Chicago Tribune.
Professional Engagement: Chris is an ASCAP member and actively involved in academic and creative communities. His courses emphasize technical skills in Cinema 4D, Redshift, and sound synthesis, reflecting his interdisciplinary approach to visual and auditory design.
