Chris Hyland is a Professor and Deputy Director of Molecular Horizons at the University of Wollongong. His research develops novel transition metal-catalyzed reactions for organic synthesis, focusing on efficiency and selectivity for pharmaceutical applications.
Education:
- PhD Organic Chemistry, Imperial College London (2004)
- MSci Chemistry with Medicinal Chemistry, Imperial College London (2000)
Research combines experimental and computational approaches to create molecules for drug development and materials science, with emphasis on reducing synthetic waste. Current projects include AI-driven reaction optimization and laser-ionizable metabolic probes.
Hyland holds an ARC Mid-Career Industry Fellowship (2025-2029) and serves on the ARC College of Experts. He coordinates CHEM360: Organic Synthesis and advocates for chemistry education innovation.
