Chris Hunt

Chris Hunt is a Full Professor at the Faculty of Law, Thompson Rivers University (TRU). He holds a BA from Mount Allison University, LLB from the University of Manitoba, and LLM and PhD from the University of Cambridge. His career includes judicial clerkship at the Supreme Court of British Columbia and commercial litigation practice in Vancouver.

His research focuses on privacy law (particularly digital privacy and tort law), law of obligations (contract, unjust enrichment), and evidence law. His scholarship has influenced Canadian courts and international law reform bodies, including citations by the Supreme Court of Canada and Law Reform Commissions globally. Awards include multiple Teaching Excellence Prizes, the University-wide Faculty Excellence Award (2019), and the President’s Award for Excellence in Scholarship (2018).

He authored Search & Seizure (2023) and co-edited The Last Frontier: Digital Privacy and the Charter (2021). He served as Editor-in-Chief of the Canadian Journal of Comparative and Contemporary Law since 2013, focusing on themes like privacy, animal law, and legal education.
