Ashley Barnes is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Law, Thompson Rivers University (TRU). She holds a BA(H) from the University of Toronto, MA from Carleton University, JD from the University of Waterloo, LLM from the London School of Economics, and SJD from the University of Toronto. Her research focuses on public and private international law, emphasizing access to justice and dispute resolution mechanisms. She has contributed to peer-reviewed journals and presented at the American and European Societies of International Law. Previously, she taught at the University of Ottawa and Dalhousie University’s Schulich School of Law, and was a Visiting Scholar at the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law, University of Cambridge.
Dr. Barnes brings extensive professional experience in international legal and policy work with the International Criminal Court and Canadian government. She is a member of the Law Society of Ontario and served as a Judicial Law Clerk at the Federal Court. She currently sits on the editorial board of the Canadian Yearbook of International Law. At TRU, she teaches courses including International Law, International Dispute Resolution, Conflict of Laws, and Immigration and Refugee Law.
