Chris Bladen is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Macquarie Medical School, Macquarie University. He holds a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Calgary (2014) and certifications in Environmental Management. His work bridges Neuroscience and Environmental Science, focusing on ion channel physiology, cannabinoid-based therapies for epilepsy and chronic pain, and environmental remediation in oil sands mining. He has authored over 30 publications and led projects like the 2018 initiative on cannabinoid-derived pain therapies.
- Education: PhD in Neuroscience (University of Calgary, 2014); Environmental Management Certification (University of Calgary, 2017); B.Sc. in Freshwater Ecology (University of Wales, 1992)
Research Interests: T-type calcium channel blockers, cannabinoid pharmacology, ion channel-drug interactions, environmental management of mining tailings. His work emphasizes translating ion channel research into clinical therapies, particularly leveraging cannabinoids for pain and epilepsy treatment.
Publications span cannabinoid-channel interactions, analgesic development, and spider toxin analgesics. His 2023 studies highlight synthetic cannabinoids' effects on T-type channels and epilepsy. Collaborations include work on vasovagal responses and blood donor health.
Grants/Projects: Led the 2018 project 'Developing next-generation pain therapies based on Cannabinoid derivatives' with Prof. Michael Connor. Active in interdisciplinary research at the Lifespan Health and Wellbeing Research Centre.
