Chloe Langford is a Lecturer in Medical Education at the University of Southampton, coordinating communication skills teaching for undergraduate medical programmes and co-leading the first-year Foundations of Medicine module. She serves on the Faculty Athena Swan committee and the UK Council for Clinical Communication, driving initiatives for inclusivity and gender equality in medical education.
Her academic background includes a Bachelor's in English Language and Linguistics, a Master's in Cross-Cultural Communication, and a PGCE prior to teaching Secondary English. She completed her PhD in Medical Education at Southampton, establishing her research foundation in student experience dynamics.
Langford's research critically examines impostor syndrome and sense of belonging among underrepresented medical students, challenging deficit narratives through innovative methodologies like reverse mentoring. Her work bridges educational theory and clinical practice to address systemic barriers in medical training environments.
Recent publications demonstrate her focus on qualitative analysis of socioeconomic disparities and staff-student dynamics, revealing how discourse shapes perceptions of underrepresented learners. Her 2025 thesis and 2021 BMJ Open article establish her as a key voice in medical education equity research.
Langford actively contributes to the Medical Education Research Group (MERG) and Medical Education Widening Participation Research Group, collaborating on projects that develop inclusive curricula and support frameworks for diverse medical student cohorts.
