Catherine Langford is an Associate Professor of Communication Studies at Texas Tech University's College of Media & Communication. She holds a Ph.D. from Penn State University (2005) and M.A. from Texas A&M (2000). Her research focuses on legal rhetoric, political discourse, and public memory, particularly analyzing constitutional interpretation, free speech, and social justice issues. She is the author of Scalia v. Scalia (2017) and co-author of textbooks on social movements and rhetorical analysis.
Her career includes teaching at three universities and developing courses in public opinion, persuasion, and media law. She has received multiple awards including the James Madison Prize (2013) and President’s Excellence in Teaching Award (2011). Langford advises for the Junior State of America and is pursuing a part-time J.D. to deepen her legal studies. Beyond academia, she is a food enthusiast known for artisan ice cream and homemade pasta.
Langford’s research bridges legal theory and public discourse, examining topics like capital punishment rhetoric, transgender rights, and the intersection of race and law. Her work critiques judicial decision-making and advocates for inclusive public narratives through rhetorical analysis.
