Dr Chinnapat Panwisawas is a Senior Lecturer in Materials and Solid Mechanics at Queen Mary University of London, where he also serves as Deputy Director of Graduate Studies and Director of the Materials Science and Engineering Programme. His research focuses on multi-scale computational materials engineering, integrating physics-based and data-driven AI frameworks to advance additive manufacturing for aerospace, automotive, biomedical, and green energy applications.
- Education: PhD in Metallurgy (2013, University of Birmingham), BSc in Physics (2008, Chulalongkorn University)
Dr Panwisawas' work spans additive manufacturing, digital twin technologies, and data-centric engineering. He employs integrated computational materials engineering (ICME) to optimize processes like laser powder bed fusion and directed energy deposition, addressing challenges in porosity, microstructural control, and material sustainability. His research aligns with UK net-zero targets, emphasizing eco-friendly manufacturing solutions.
Recent publications highlight multi-material additive manufacturing, functionally graded alloys, and AI-driven process optimization. His team collaborates with Rolls-Royce, ISIS Neutron Source, and global institutions, securing grants from Innovate UK, Royal Society, and EPSRC. Awards include Fellowships from FIMechE, FInstP, and inclusion in the Top 2% of World Scientists in Materials (2022–2024).
- Scientific Awards:
- FIMechE (2021), FInstP (2020), FIMMM (2019), CEng (2016)
- Dorothy Hodgkin Postgraduate Award (2009–2012)
- AM-Bench First Place Award (2018)
Dr Panwisawas supervises PhD students in projects ranging from 3D-printed prostate tissue imaging to ultralightweight mechanical metamaterials. His grants include the NEXTA Co-creation Centre and DISTorting Aerospace Manufacturing Boundaries initiatives, supporting innovation in titanium and multi-material AM.
