Professor Aijun Huang is a faculty member at Monash University, holding dual appointments in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. He is the Director of the Monash Centre for Additive Manufacturing (MCAM). His expertise spans additive manufacturing (AM), materials science, and metallurgy, with a focus on titanium, nickel-based superalloys, and aluminum alloys. Huang has extensive industry experience, including roles at Rolls-Royce and Baosteel Group, and has attracted over $10M AUD in industry-funded research.
His research interests include AM process optimization, alloy design for AM, post-processing techniques, and conventional metallurgy of aerospace materials. He leads a team of 10 PhD students and has authored over 160 publications. Notable awards include the UK Titanium Research Award (2009) and the Vice-Chancellor's Enterprise Award (2017).
Huang's work emphasizes translating AM innovations into industrial applications, such as aerospace and energy sectors. Key projects involve hybrid manufacturing techniques combining AM with conventional forging to enhance component performance and reduce costs.
